Counselling in schools
WE PROVIDE AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE CAN FEEL SAFE AND SUPPORTED
If you are a school leader, headmaster, or governing body of a school you will know of the importance of ensuring pupils’ wellbeing, developing character and resilience and supporting pupils with problems.
Future in Mind, the Government report of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Taskforce, recognises the crucial role that schools can play, working alongside health and community and voluntary services like us, in helping to support good mental health and in preventing and identifying mental health issues in children and young people.
North East Counselling Services has a track record of delivering specialist counselling services that focus on the needs of children and young people.
Here’s an example from data from “Healthy Children and Young Carers” Project, funded by Big Lottery from January 2011 to December 2013 which helped support over 300 11-18-year-olds in Gateshead schools:

What is counselling:
Counselling is an intervention that children or young people can voluntarily enter into if they want to explore, understand and overcome issues in their lives which may be causing them difficulty, distress and/or confusion. A counselling relationship has identified boundaries and an explicit contract agreed between the young person, counsellor and, where appropriate, parent or carer.
We can provide tailored support to pupils aged from 4 to 18 within your school and we will establish a referrals process, safeguarding and provide you with a counsellor that meets your needs. We can also provide a range of support to school staff including supervision, counselling and training. We can usually provide counselling on school premises and can work around timetables and holidays.
If you would like to find out more on how we can help children and young people in your school, or if you need support for staff, please give our Business Development Manager, Carol Walker, a call on:
