Jobcentre Plus – “Counselling for Long Term Unemployed”

Objectives

North East Counselling Services and JobcentrePlus recognised that a number of individuals who are receiving Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) and Employment Support Allowance (ESA) can be very vulnerable, experiencing a wide range of difficulties in their lives which are preventing them from being able to successfully engage with available support and become ‘work ready’.

North East Counselling Services has a proven track record of engaging with individuals with emotional support needs and mental health conditions; those who are deemed hard to reach, socially excluded and impoverished, helping them to realise their full potential.

JobcentrePlus funded North East Counselling Services for a trial project for one year to deliver support to individuals who were experiencing difficulties at the pre-Work Programme stage.

results

NECS provide individuals with the counselling and emotional support and helped them to recognise their own strengths, interests and limitations will, in turn, help them to better engage with the practical support available to them in their future job search.
